TGIFF! - Converging Stars...Fizzle Out

Welcome to TGIFF! My finish today is six years in the making so it feels like a big TGIFF! It was started for a guild challenge in 2006, but I had problems with it from the start. I tried broderie persé (before I knew what broderie persé was) with the stars, but my machine at the time hated the gold thread for the satin stitching on the stars. When I got a new machine, the satin stitching worked fine, but then I didn't know how to quilt it.

Pulling it out this week, I thought I'd try the quilting technique that I'd learned from Heather Lair this summer, but with gold thread. I don't think it turned out as well as Heathia, but I still love the technique and the texture it gives. I did a non-mitred facing and c'est fini! Not loving this one, but it's done and I'm celebrating it because I learned a lot in making it and it's off my WIP/UFO list!

My guild is collecting placemats for the holidays for Meals on Wheels. This has a bit of a festive feel to it, right? I think I'll donate it to them. Maybe it will cheer someone up this Christmas.

  1. I'm sure your perspective changes after six years, but for me, seeing for the first time, I think it is amazing!

  3. That is a great finish! Must feel so good to have it crossed off the ufo list.. I have a few like that, that I'm sure if I finished them, I'd feel such relief. ;) I think it looks very festive and will totally bring someone happiness this Christmas! It's gorgeous!

  7. I love the movement in the quilting, and the asymmetrical borders!
And I didn't know what broderie persé was either!

  8. I love the stars! It is a great feeling to complete an old UFO. I have been trying to do that as well. I still have one more convergence to get quilted.

  9. It's been forever since I've done TGIFF post. I used the button on the side on my blog post, is that the right one?
I have been a part of the quilt guild here just under a year so I have my very first challenge quilt to do. I hope I can accomplish it!

  10. I think it will definitely cheer someone up! It looks lovely - but I know what you mean, sometimes I've finished something, really not pleased with the result BUT pleased with all the techniques I'd learnt! They always come in useful.
