Giddy

I'm really giddy right now and have been since yesterday morning. I was already in a great mood having been spoiled by my boys with breakfast in bed, but when I walked into the Festival of Quilts to do my volunteer shift, I heard someone congratulate me on my ribbons. Yes, ribbons...plural! One ribbon would have sent me over the moon, but ribbons plural?! I thought my head was going to explode on the spot. The talent in my guild is incredible and it took me two years of being a member before I showed anything during our meetings' Show and Share. I'm just so honoured! *Huge goofy grin*

I ran around to check my quilts out. Snow Crab Nebula won 1st in the President's Challenge (Theme: Shooting Stars). Of course, the hubster takes credit for this one because he named it. LOL!

What The FMQAYGQAL? won 3rd in Viewer's Choice for Small Bed Quilt Machine Quilted.

Su{Brrr}nova won 2nd Merit Award for Small Bed Quilt Machine Quilted.

I'm still doing the happy dance today.

Even while I contemplate this:

The top for Hard Core is done and I'm mulling over ideas for the quilting. Originally, I had envisioned something like this -- rays of different free motion motifs going all the way around:

But then I saw some fabulous examples of precise spirals and I thought of adding in some intersecting straight lines, kind of like this:

And now I'm torn. Thoughts? Other ideas?

I'm also linking up to Design Wall Monday with Patchwork Times because they always have great ideas.

Hope you had a fabulous weekend!

  9. Congrats again! I really like the spirals and straight lines but think it would be cool if you could add some small pebbles in some of the sections in the background fabric... Just a thought...

  10. Congratulations M-R!! Three ribbons, that's fantastic! I really want to quilt one of my snow dyed pieces and seeing your quilted has motivated me to do that this summer when I take a break from quilting for clients.

  19. Cheers on the ribbons.

I am amazed at the totally different effects of the two quilting possibilities. Seems to me that the first pushes attention away from the center while the second, the circles, keeps the attention on the center, so I would go with the second. (This in spite of my usual preference for gorgeous pattern in negative space.)

  21. Congratulations, congratulations, congratulations, amazing and well deserved :)

  22. Congrats!!!! I heard it was a great show. As for the quilting of your next masterpiece, I like the second option. I think the first one detracts too much from your wonderful design and colours...

  23. Congratulations on the ribbons, your quilts are wonderful and it is nice to see them recognized. I am sure you will pick the best quilting for that new quilt, I am looking forward to seeing what you come up with.

  24. Wow, how fantastic is that! What a lovely collection of ribbons.

Personally I like the second choice. Spider web or log section.

  25. Woohoo!! Look at all those well-deserved ribbons…! :-)

I'm leaning towards the spiral idea myself. It seems to enhance the pieces rather than the pieces enhancing the quilting….
