TGIFF! - Best Laid Plans

Welcome to TGIFF! Where every finish deserves to be celebrated. This week, I'm celebrating...this block from Tula Pink's City Sampler book!

Untitled

Oooh, purple! Okay, while I'm glad this block is finished (it has been for some time, but I forgot to share it here), this was not what I was hoping to share this week. I was hoping to show you a finished Layers of Leaves or October Sky, which is what I'm going to call it now.

Thank you all so much for the encouragement on my last post! You guys are the best! I worked late into the night every day this week trying to finish it, but I knew last night when I was still doing the hand stitching that it wasn't going to be finished in time. Not only was there still the machine quilting to finish, but then the quilt would need to be blocked and then the binding added. No possible way, even if I pulled an all nighter and could just work on this. Sigh.

Oh well, I'm disappointed, but I'm loving the piece so far and can't wait to finish it. It will be worth the extra effort and the wait. Here's another progress shot.

So...while I don't have much to celebrate, I bet you do!

  8. The purple block is very pretty. I am so glad you are taking your time with that beautiful quilt. I have learned over time that I always redo a rushed job. I am also limiting my hand stitching time to save my wrist. October Sky will be gorgeous. Enjoy the journey :)

  11. That is a wonderful block. I am not sure why but I was so... challenged making the Tula blocks--I think because if the size--who knows! Thanks for hosting this weeks TGIFF!

  16. Your quilt already looks awesome and I am sorry that your are disappointed that it is not finished today. I cannot wait to see it completely finished but in the meantime I can just sit and look at the inspiring mix of hand quilting and machine quilting side by side - what a fantastic look that has. You are brilliant!!
Thanks also for the link to blocking a quilt - I had never heard of doing that - I have blocked fabric to make it straight again - and blocked embroidery but never considered you could block a quilt - thanks.
Remember - genius works at its own pace!

  17. The orange and gray design is stunning. The hand stitching adds so much. Perhaps there will be another call for quilts and it will be all finished and ready.

I keep seeing your message about a no-reply blogger. Can you let me know if I am one? I'd like to fix that if I am.

    Thanks,
