Grey and Green Modern Goodness - A Work in Progress

I've had a quilt stuck in my head for a couple of months now, ever since I picked up some lime, ash and charcoal Kona. They went so beautifully together that I knew I had to try it sometime in a quilt. I instantly thought of triangles a little à la Sew Katie Did, but with equilateral triangles instead of half-square triangles.

This past weekend, I picked up the Hex N More ruler by Julie Herman of Jaybird Quilts from Mad About Patchwork at FibreFest (can I possibly have more links in one sentence?). As soon as I saw that ruler, I knew it was meant to be mine.

The hubster had to do some work that night so I got busy with my ruler. I cut out a whack (yes, that's a technical term) of triangles in three shades of grey and two shades of lime green.

I'm seriously loving this ruler. Why? Because it uses strips of fabric instead of having to cut each triangle. What a huge time saver and efficient use of fabric! I had this quilt largely cut and laid out in about two hours and a good chunk of that time was spent playing with the layout. I'm still playing around with the colour placement, trying to be balanced, but random.

And lookee what was on Design Seeds this morning...not far off, eh?

I'm linking up with Patchwork Times' Design Wall Monday. Very fun to see what others are designing!

  5. I love it! I am so loving lime green lately and grey is such a good neutral! I am seriously thinking of buying that ruler because I have a similar quilt in my head using scraps. Definitely on my wish list now!

  7. This quilt is beautiful! The colors are gorgeous together! Thanks for the link to the ruler. I've been wanting to do another triangle quilt, but I did not want to mess with flimsy templates again!
