A Wee TGIFF! And I Know You Wanna Be Canadian Please

Happy Friday, all! First, I must show you this AWESOME video. I wouldn't be surprised if the applications to become Canadian skyrocket in the coming months as a direct result of this video. ;)

The sad/funny thing? I named a bunch of the moves correctly before the names popped up!

***

This small finish was started in the workshop I took with Heather Lair this summer. It's torn-strip appliqué and uses mostly the hand-painted fabric I made in her class. This is how it looked at the end of the class:

And this is Torn Landscape finished:
Torn Landscape
I'm pretty happy with it considering that it's a first attempt and was started in a rush. The texture of the raw edges is better in real life and I plan to try this again in a larger piece. It's 4" by 6" and finished with a satin stitch around the edge. I can see using a lot of scraps up with these kind of projects. If you'd like to see more of this style of landscape, check out Heather Lair Designs. Her work is gorgeous!

I also finished this little selvage pincushion. It's filled with crushed walnut shells (pet supply store). It's my first selvage project and first pincushion. I liked working with selvages so there will be more to come...

Linking up with Kristy at Quiet Play. She finished a stunning paper pieced Iris wallhanging. Seriously awesome!

And since I did get some randomness in today, I'm also linking up with Cindy at Live a Colourful Life for Really Random Thursday...even though it's Friday because this randomness was just too awesome to wait until next week.
Live A Colorful Life
And since I'm also feeling felicitous of being Canadian today, I'm going to link up with fellow Canuck Felicity for Friday Felicities.
Have a great weekend! Hope you get some dance time in!

P.S. I'll be putting up the Colour My World Orange Challenge linky on Sunday. :)

  2. Oh, M-R! that made me laugh - though I haven't seen any of those dance moves, EVER (thank goodness) except "raise the cup" in the 90's, lol.

    Love your little pin cushion!

  3. PS - went and checked out Heather Lair's designs - they remind me of Naomi Wanjiku's "string" quilts from several years ago (she's gone in a different direction now) http://www.naomiwanjiku.com/gallery/5853-Textile#42328
which are what inspired my art quilting in the first place!

Here's my very first (on purpose) art quilt:

  6. Ha, that video is so funny! Still being new to Canada (moved here in 2011) it made me laugh, wonder what I would have thought of the place if I had seen it before we immigrated! :)

Love the landscape and the pin cushion. :)

  9. OMGosh I cannot show this video to my daughter. She might defect! She would wear any flag but her own. I call her my little traitor, haha! No, really she has a great love for other countries and cultures. She is a BIG world history buff. She even practices accents(she does a polish accent that will make you laugh your butt off). She wants me to do a quilt with flags on it. I showed her the Union Jack quilt and she was panting. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh, I have to remind her sometimes she's an American. I blame Japanese Anime. Every since she started watching Hetalia. Great pincusion and Torn Landscape.

  10. Really interesting technique for the landscape - love the texture of it!

Sweet pincushion too! I never really got the selvedge thing til one of the fab girls at quilt group showed me some of the things she's made with selvedges!

  11. That was so great! Luved it and had me tapping my geriatric shoes. Actually we like to dance and my Dh is willing but inept so it dawned on him at the last dance opportunity to just do his Tai Kwon Do patterns to music. It was a riot! Doesn't take much to amuse us, eh!

  12. had to forward that to my DH - he's sitting there laughing now - perfect start to my day.

  14. That video was so funny. Definitely showing that to my grandkids--they will love those dance moves! Wow, your torn landscape is just beautiful. In love with the selvage pincushion--seriously! And orange? Really, orange? Can't wait!

  15. Your landscape looks great. I am always so impressed by things like that, I could just stare all day trying to figure it out.
And the Canadian dance moves were awesome! I just wish I knew the Canadian word for that; I only speak Californian. Nice? or is that just Minnesota? Thankfully my brothers were hockey fans so I at least understood two that baffled my husband. I think scraping the windshield is pretty universal, but it takes a Canadian to dance it.
