Stitch Bible - Work in Progress

I took Carol Ann Waugh's Stupendous Stitching class on Craftsy a few weeks ago (loved it!). While I haven't started any projects using the stitching techniques she taught yet, I did start a Stitch Bible (another organization project). I've only done 50 of the stitches my machine has so this is going to take a while.

Basically, a Stitch Bible is record of each decorative stitch you have on your machine. The first third is the factory preset stitch, the next third is changing the stitch length or width, and the last third is another change. It's important to note the changes you made to the stitches so you can do it again (mine are in black so I have to look very closely to see the stitch length and width for each section). My biggest a-ha moment (yay Oprah!) was realizing that many of the decorative stitches on my machine can look very different if I play with the stitch length and widths.

Anyway, it was a great class and the Stitch Bible was just one of the fun things I learned. BTW, I'm not a Craftsy affiliate, but I may become one because I love their classes so much.

  1. What a fun idea! I've had a couple of plays with stitches, mine doesn't have that many though. And yay oprah! :-)

  2. Great idea! And especially about noting the width/length changes right there on the stitch area. Can't wait to try this!

  3. Love this! These pages would be great quilt blocks too!

  4. I did the same thing when I got my new machine...but sadly...I hardly ever use any of the deco stitches! I guess I should put more effort into using them! It has 101 of them!

  5. I did all my stitches but never varied them so now I have to do them over again. But it'll be worthwhile

  6. Great idea and I love the color of fabric you chose! You can clearly see the stitches. Beautiful work!

  7. I just got a new machine recently and don't know her very well yet. This would be a wonderful way for us to get better acquainted! Well worth the effort!

  10. So glad you like the class. I bought it during a Craftsy sale sometime before Christmas and haven't done it yet. Now, with your recommendation, I guess I should move it up on my to-do list.

  11. I was a new quilter and sewer, when I bought my first machine. I did a stitch bible as a way to teach me how to use, and get comfortable, with the machine. It's a great idea for anyone to do.

  12. Thanks for posting the review since this is a class that I might have overlooked by thinking, "I'm not a fiber artist." I want to branch out in my sewing though, and I can see how getting to know my machine could be really helpful!
