TGIFF! - A Place for Each Child...

And each child in his place. That's the idea, anyway. It's been awhile. Sorry about that. There's some not-so-fun stuff going on around here.

Before the not-so-fun stuff started though, I did finish the boys' placemats so that is what I'm going to celebrate today!

Each boy picked out the colours he wanted for his placemat. The two older boys helped with the design and improv piecing. I did the quilting and the binding. Love these collaborative efforts!

Daniel went for a monochromatic look.

Micah (with a little help from Mama) went for these colours.

And chose a Star Wars backing.

Patrick went bold with this colour palette. In making his placemat, we talked about dominant and accent colours for the colour palette. He chose blues to be the dominant colour and red, salmon and purple for the accent colours. The salmon is looking kind of dominant though. I guess the next lesson will be about proportion. Lol! 

Think having these nice placemats will curb dinnertime chaos? Yeah, me neither. But I can dream... ;)

Marking Your Space

B-b-b-bonanza! Bundle Bonanza, that is, is on at Sew Sisters this weekend. Great bundles of coordinating fat quarters at delicious prices (yes, I haven't had breakfast yet). On until tomorrow!

By some scheduling miracle a couple of weekends ago, we got to spend a Saturday morning hanging out at home instead of the arena. Even better, I could spend it in my sewing studio sewing with my boys. Woo hoo!

I've been promising them placemats for some time. I pulled out the solid scrap bin and had them choose what colours they'd like.

Table for...Eight?

Happy Monday, all! I finished the placemats for the Ottawa Modern Quilt Guild silent auction tonight. I backed each one with a different colour and quilted each one with a different motif. Great practice!

Backs: The colour in the photo is not quite right, but you get the idea. 

I'm trying to decide if I should list them as one set of eight, two sets of four or four sets of two. Thoughts? 

Also, anyone know of any good April Fools jokes to play on kids? I'm itching to prank my three little wild things tomorrow morning. A friend suggested switching the kids in their beds so they wake up in each other's beds so we may try that.

TGIFF! - Purple Radiant Orchid Madness

Happy Friday, all! I'm in a bit of a purple phase at the moment. Kind of à propos given Pantone's 2014 Color of the Year, eh?

Earlier this week, I showed you my little Mini Me block. Through the magic of the Internet, it's been transformed into this little pincushion.

Although it seemed mini compared to the 12.5" Diamond Ripples block on which it's based, doesn't it look big compared to this other selvage pincushion I finished this week?

 

But that's not really purple madness, M-R, you say. Okay, so how about these placemats made with the purple and lime green scraps from Carsick? Yay for using up more scraps!

I did some free motion matchstick quilting on these and I love the texture. Kind of looks woven, doesn't it?

My kids immediately claimed them, but I'm holding firm that one of them must be mine. Negotiations ensued and concessions made. Expect to see some more placemats in the near future. :)
